Choo declines Yankees offer to go with Rangers

The Shin-Soo Choo sweepstakes are officially over after the switch-hitting outfielder agreed to a seven-year deal worth $130 million dollars with the Texas Rangers.

It looked like Choo was going to either sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees or the Texas Rangers. After the Diamondbacks traded for Mark Trumbo it looked like they were out of the running. The Yankees added Carlos Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury earlier in the off season so that was probably why Choo turned down the Yankees seven-year $140 million dollar deal.

The Rangers have been doing some serious spending so far this off season. The Rangers traded for the contract of Prince Fielder who is owed $168 million over seven years and now adding Choo and his $130 million over seven years.

The Texas Rangers missed the post season last year really struggling down the stretch to knock in runs. Many are still wondering if the Rangers by adding two significant bats have enough thump to make the post season because they are bound to lose top of the line starter, Matt Garza, and slugger, Nelson Cruz.

In 2013, Choo hit .285 with 21 home runs and 54 runs batter in while stealing 20 bases.

The projected Texas Rangers lineup after Choo signing:

CF Leonys Martin (36 SBs)
SS Elvis Andurs (.271 48 SBs)
LF Shin-Soo Choo (.285 21 HRs 20 SBs)*While playing for the Cincinnati Reds
3B Adrian Beltre (.315 30 HRs 92 RBIs)
1B Prince Fielder (25 HRs 106 RBIs)*While playing for the Detroit Tigers
RF Alex Rios (82 RBIs 42 SBs)
C Geovany Soto (9 HRs 22 RBIs)
DH Mitch Moreland (23 HRs)
2B Jurickson Profar (26 RBIs)
