Cano and Mariners agree on 10 years, $240 million

Friday afternoon Robinson Cano shocked the baseball world by agreeing to a ten-year deal worth $240 million with the Seattle Mariners. The deal was broke by ESPN's Enrique Rojas.

Robinson Cano
Just last night is seemed like Cano would end up in a Mariners uniform when he took the time to fly out to Seattle and meet with Mariners executives. It was reported by CBS's Jon Heyman that earlier in the day Friday that Cano to Seattle deal had a bump in the road. That bump in the road was the fact that Cano wanted a tenth year from the Mariners when they were only offering nine. Cano's dad made it very clear that his son wanted ten years.

Cano last season hit 27 homeruns while driving in 107 for the Yankees, who missed the playoffs. In 2011 Robbie knocked in 118 runs for the Yankees. In his time in New York, Cano won a World Series(2009), he was a 5-time All-Star(2006, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), a Home Run Derby Champion(2011), he was a 5-time Silver Slugger(2006, 2010-2013), and a 2-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner (2010, 2012). Cano, 31, will put his eight years behind him in New York and start fresh in Seattle. Cano leaves a huge void in the Yankees lineup.

For the Mariners, 2013 was not a good year for their second baseman. Robert Andino(29 games) and Nick Franklin(102 games) split time at the position. Franklin hit .225 while accumulating 12 home runs and driving in 45. Andino hit .184 while driving in 4 runs for the M's. The Mariners second baseman had a combined .278 OBP which is horrendous. The Mariners will welcome Cano's arrival but sill look to make some significant moves this offseason.
