Benoit, Padres agree to two-year deal

The San Diego Padres and reliever Joaquin Benoit agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth $15.5 million dollars, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Benoit, 36, had a stellar 2013 season going 4-1 with a 2.03 ERA recording 24 saves and striking out 73 batters in 67 innings pitched.

Benoit is expected to serve as a set-up man to Huston Street in the Padres bullpen. San Diego is going to be Benoit's fourth career team in the MLB during his 12 year career.

The Padres traded reliever Luke Gregerson to the Oakland Athletics earlier in the off season so they needed another hard throwing righty in the bullpen to bridge the gap to Street.
