Axford to Indians finalized

The Cleveland Indians and closer, John Axford, finalized their one-year deal worth $4.5 million dollars on December 19th.

The Indians adding a closing pitcher is not a surprise to anyone but the fact that they added a pitcher that had some mechanical issues in 2013 is. Why do I say that? I say that because the Indians 2013 opening-day closer, Chris Perez, really frustrated some Indians fans with his inability to close out game anymore.

Axford, 30, didn't have too good of numbers in 2013 finishing with a 6-7 record with the Milwaukee Brewers and only converting any saves after converting 35 in 2012.

In late August of the 2013 season the struggling Brewer, Axford, was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for a player to be named later. Axford's numbers with the St. Louis Cardinals were a little better registering at 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA.
